Who I Am

Boy howdy am I going to have to give this a proper answer. But for now….

In September 2025, I was diagnosed with an extremely aggressive brain cancer (Grade 4 Glioblastoma). That is in varying measures a trait of mine and a part of my story.

However, it is definitely not “who I am”.

Who I am is a person who aspires to be:

  1. a great husband

  2. a great member of my/our chosen family

  3. a great friend

  4. a great community member

Everything I do is filtered through those lenses.

This disease gave me a gift:

  • Time to focus on what matters most to me for as long as I can.

  • Time to chase my passions and celebrate the great life I have.

  • Time to write the epilogue of my story.

To that end, I am creating (in media res) this this website.

Which is what the next section is about.

What’s Going On and Where to Go Next

You can orient yourself with the following sections that are floating around the top of the bar thingie at the top of the page.

  • How I am Doing

    • This site was originally intended to just a spot where I can update people in one place without my needing to repeat the same information again and again. Think of it as a micro-blog that gives users the choice of a “just the facts” level up to a “in brief” option that that is not essay-level. Easily digestible stuff.

    • It also gives users an “opt in” option. Not everyone wants to know the details and that 100% OK.

  • What am I Doing

    • This is where I share relevant commitments I have made to others, when they are happening, and additional relevant details.
  • The Tipsy Journalist

    • This is my general blog and the bulk of what will be my “content”.

    • It is where my nom de plume “The Tipsy Journalist” lives day in and day out and explores everything. Nearly all of my content flows into and through here. That includes things that intersect other parts of the site.

  • Glioblastoma

    • Provides some information on what Glioblastoma is (in general), how my particular version and what it means for me, some curated resources, and conversations/links to recordings with stakeholders.

    • Sections include:

      • Glioblastoma 101

  • How to Help

    • Learn: I have a lot of passion projects. Here’s where you can hopefully find something we share and learn more about it/them.

    • Share: Did something I shared add value to your time? Share it with others to increase awareness.

    • Donate: Same goals as above—support causes we share. In this case, with monetary donations, goods, or even time.

    • Other ways to help: I am (after a recovery) once again a reasonably creative guy. But I am a HUGE believer in “surround yourself with people smarter than you” and I am open to the possibilities of creative ways to help benevolent people in need. If you have ideas, let’s talk.
